Living Room Trends For Your Home In 2023
Although the kitchen may be the centre of the house, relaxation takes place in the living room. This is a room that needs to fulfil many functions, from family game days to cosy movie nights, and ideally look good while doing so.
In light of this, we asked some of our favourite designers for their best guesses regarding the upcoming living room trends in 2023.
If all of this sounds complicated, then trust me Vivin Furnishings provides living room furniture packages that makes it look like a piece of cake when it comes to furnishing your Sydney home or any corner of your home.
Using Living Rooms As Multi – Functional Spaces
Our homes have many areas that have evolved to serve more than one purpose, such as the home office closet or the basement gym, but your living room should also serve multiple purposes.
Living room interior can serve many different purposes, according to interior designer Jennifer Hunter. Because I want my clients to actually live in their living rooms, I always include a game table in them.
Warm and Calming Neutrals
In 2023, according to Jill Elliott, the owner of Color Kind Studio, there will be a change in living room colour schemes. The warm, calming blues, peach-pinks, and chic neutrals like sable, mushroom, and ecru that can be found in the living room interior are what she finds most appealing for 2023.
Interesting Accent Pieces
In addition, Labourdette-Martinez and Wahler anticipate an increase in living room furniture- accent chairs with unusual details and unexpected colour combinations in textiles.
The team tells us, “We love the expanded options of accent chairs with rope or woven details on the back.” To create a unified look, think about incorporating hints of the chair’s accent material or colour throughout the house. It provides additional texture and visual interest in living room design, which can contribute to the cosiness of a homey atmosphere.
Inspiration From Nature
While Joyner notes that the influence of the natural world will only grow in the upcoming year, biophilic design was a major living room trend for 2022.
She predicts that “natural elements” like marble, rattan, wicker, and cane will remain prominent in design in the upcoming year. “Earth tones also seem to be enduring along with this. I believe that greens and blues that are associated with water will still be prevalent.
Beautiful Lighting
In addition, Joyner sees a rise in statement lighting fixtures. Although recessed lighting is undoubtedly here to stay, she predicts that lamps will eventually be used in residential spaces, if only as decorative pieces rather than for lighting.
The Art Deco Era Is Back
Designers predicted that Art Deco would become more popular and that the Roaring 20s would return at some point in the new decade. According to Joyner, that time has come.
She predicts that accent pieces and accessories with an art deco influence will be popular in 2023. “I’m beginning to notice this era’s influence more and more.”
Colored Ceilings
The painted ceiling is predicted to become more prevalent by 2023, according to Jessica Mycek, manager of innovation at the paint company Dunn-Edwards DURA.
There are other options, she says, adding that “many use walls as an extension of their warm and cosy space.” According to the space and architecture of a room, painting the ceiling can contribute to a sense of coherence. We like to refer to the ceiling as the fifth wall.
Unexpected Colour Combinations
2023 will see the introduction of fresh textiles, hues, and patterns, with accent chairs and sofas in complementary hues adding visual interest.
Labourdette-Martinez and Wahler agree that they are particularly enthusiastic about large-scale works in striking hues, such as burnt orange combined with soft pastel paint and textiles. We adore how a soft blue-grey-white contrasts with a rich, saturated rust.
A Lot Of Curves
Curves have been on the rise for a few years now, but according to designer Grey Joyner, they will continue to be prominent in 2023. For 2023, according to Joyner, “curved upholstery, such as curved back sofas and barrel chairs, as well as round pillows and accessories, seem to be making a comeback.” Arched doorways and interior spaces are both very trendy right now, as is curved architecture.
Hearth Homes Interiors’ Olivia Wahler and Katie Labourdette-Martinez concur. They say, “We anticipate seeing a lot more curved living room furniture, as we are already seeing a lot of curved sofas, as well as accent chairs and benches.”

Less Predictable Accessory
Odom observes an increase in unexpected living room design as well. This doesn’t mean you should throw away all of your conventional coffee table books; instead, try out some more sentimental or interesting accessories.
In a way that we’re moving past, he says, “We rely heavily on books and small sculptures.” Without the distraction of other accessories that we see repeatedly, “I predict that we’ll see more thoughtful and special pieces.”
Pedestals, according to Odom, are a popular decor item that use this precise technique. He explains that it “really can anchor a room in an intriguing way.”
